Although the COVID-19 crisis cut his senior baseball season short, Shane Lewis will still be attending Mississippi State University in the fall on a full athletic scholarship.

Lewis played first and third baseman over the past few years, leading the Warren Central Vikings to many victories. He was looking forward to playing on the field this year with his longtime teammates when the season was cut short.

“It was definitely a heart breaker because I wanted to play with my best friends until the season was interrupted,” Lewis said.

Lewis started his senior season under Randy Broome, who took over as head coach in 2019.

“Broome was a perfect fit for the job because he always put us in a position to succeed,” Lewis said.

Hitting a home run in his 2018 sophomore season against No. 1 Gulfport High School was one of Lewis’s most memorable moments as a Viking.

Lewis dedicated his senior season to his best friend, Carson Kurtz, who passed away last year.

He credits his success to his parents, Abigayle and Randy Lewis, and also his grandfather, Charles Amborn. Lewis also mentioned all of the coaches who helped him learn the game of baseball.

Lewis will report to MSU in the fall where he will be a Bulldog and play in front of the school’s many fans.
