Mississippi State University running back Kylin Hill has gained support from former MSU head coach Sylvester Croom regarding Hill not playing until the state flag is changed.

Hill tweeted a few days ago that either Mississippi changes the flag or he will not represent the state any longer.

Croom was the first Black head coach in SEC history, and he didn’t hesitate to respond once he found out that Hill took a stand on social media.

“I think this is a move in the right direction, not only for the conference but for the state of Mississippi. I think a lot of people will embrace it,” Croom told Saturday Down South. “You’ll have some that don’t, but I think a lot people are going to embrace it, and change will be made.”

Mississippians voted on whether the flag should be changed in 2001. At that time, the state chose took keep the flag that includes a confederate symbol. Nearly a generation has passed since that vote, and more and more people support making a change.

In the past couple of days, Hill has also received support from NFL player Willie Gay Jr., rapper Ice Cube and MSU President Mark Keenum.

Hill is going into his senior season as MSU’s lead rusher, and it will be a huge loss to the Bulldogs offense if they have to play without their biggest offensive threat.
