Additional teams have joined the rescue effort at Eagle Lake.

A pontoon boat is apparently abandoned on the lake, and the owners are concerned that two people who were on the boat have not returned.

Monday, a couple went out on Eagle Lake in the boat to celebrate her birthday.

Around 4:30 p.m. Monday, someone texted them and got a response from the boat. That is apparently the last time anyone heard from the couple.

Tuesday at 10 a.m., a family member tried to contact them and got no response.

The family member got in a boat and attempted to find them on the lake. The found the pontoon. On the boat were the couple’s cell phones and other items clearly showing they were on the boat at one time, but the couple were not on it.

Rescuers believe they went for a swim and the boat got away from them.

The hope is that they made it to shore. Part of the search effort includes drones searching for the couple on the shore.

Multiple rescue teams are on the water or on the way. They include the Eagle Lake Fire Department, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and Warren County Emergency Management Agency. Numerous Eagle Lake residents have also joined the search.
