A couple of guys out searching a hillside for buried treasures and bottles stumbled upon a body in the woods.

The body was found Sunday, July 12, shortly after 7 p.m. near Ring Road just north of where it intersects with Jeff Davis. The body has been there for a while, according to eyewitnesses.

This area is the same general area that was searched June 13 for a missing Vicksburg man, Harold Lindsey. Teams from all around central Mississippi searched the area for Lindsey most of that day. Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace indicated to the Vicksburg Daily News that the family of Harold Lindsey has been notified that a body has been found in that area.

“Late this afternoon some people that were hunting for antique bottles came upon human remains in a wooded area near Ring Road” Pace said. “Warren County sheriff’s investigators are on scene but have requested the assistance of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and their forensic team. We have not identified this individual nor determined for sure how long this body has been here, but it is in advanced stages of decomposition.”

The Vicksburg Daily News is waiting on more details from Pace who has been on the scene since shortly after the call came into the 911 call center.

The Vicksburg Daily News will provide more information as the story develops.
