Chaney played for the Bulldogs from 2005 to 2009 where where he had a total of 286 tackles. He also played in the NFL from 2010 to 2014 before being placed on injury reserved list in 2014.

“Mississippi State means so much to me and my family, and I appreciate Coach Leach for the opportunity to return home to a place that I have so many great memories,” Chaney said in a statement after he was hired at MSU. “I am excited to be a part of an outstanding football staff and athletic department, and I can’t wait to get to work.”
