A tropical storm near Hispaniola Sunday is being monitored by weather officials for possible development as it moves toward the Gulf of Mexico. Forecast models only give the storm a 20% chance to develop into a significant storm; however, in its current form, it could bring heavy rains across the south Gulf states.

All forecast models currently carry the caveat that it is too early to predict a path or strength. This storm does bear watching as it moves into the Gulf toward the mainland United States.
