Around 3:39 a.m. Tuesday morning, an alert Vicksburg Police Officer, Cortez Brooks, observed a crash in his rear view mirror on Mission 66 near Alcorn Drive.

The Toyota Camry automobile was traveling at a high rate of speed, left the roadway and overturned about 30 feet down a hill. The driver was trapped inside.

Vicksburg Fire Department deployed Ladder 3, Rescue, Fire Medic 20 and other resources to the scene.

The 25-year-old victim was extricated from the vehicle, transported to Meritt Health River Region and subsequently air lifted to UMMC. His injuries are reported to be serious in nature.
