Vicksburg native Tyler Smith helped Alcorn State University baseball team to a 3-2 win on Thursday over Alabama State University.

The former Vicksburg High School standout went 1 for 3 at the plate in the elimination game. He also had two run scores which helped the Braves take home the win.

Kobe Head was on the mound for the Braves and pitched for seven innings, throwing one strikeout, while Lane Gordon came in relief and threw two strikeouts.

Tristan Garcia went 3 for 5 to lead Alcorn at the plate.

The Braves will face Southern University on Friday at noon for another elimination game.
