Name released in rock yard accidental death

Lawrence Frederick “Gooch” Gibson, Jr., 47, was killed in an industrial accident this morning at the rock yard on Dorsey Street in Vicksburg.

Just before 9 a.m., a call came into the Vicksburg Warren 911 of an accident at the rock yard. A worker became trapped between two pieces of equipment and was unable to escape. He died on the scene.

A large piece of equipment was being loaded onto a barge and Gibson was somehow trapped between that piece of equipment and the barge. Since the barge was on the water the Coast Guard was called in to investigate and will head up the investigation.

Also on scene were Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace, Coroner Doug Huskey and Vicksburg police including George-1, Claude Billings.
