The Gator defense continues to allow less than 10 points per game this season
Vicksburg High School football team is averaging 8.1 points per game defensively in the 2022 season where the Gators sit with a 5-2 record.
In the majority of the season, the Gator defense has only allowed one score each match as they are built with multiple Division 1 prospects who get the job done with ease.
Most recently, the Gators took down Callaway, who was undefeated before coming to the swamp, where they won 30-7.
From everywhere on the field, there’s someone on the Gators’ defense who put fear into their opponents, starting with the defensive line. Caleb Bryant and Demarcus Johnson have had the most notable performances on the line with their ability to get to the quarterback.
Wally Curry also walks down from the linebacker position and applied pressure along with Tyler Carter.
Seven games deep into the season, no one has managed to score more than two touchdowns on the Gator defense as they are continuing their hard play from last season where offenses couldn’t handle what VHS had to offer.
The secondary is also built with experienced athletes like Jaleel Fleming, Kearris Gilliam and JD Kelly who can shut down just about any team’s passing game.
Sophomore linebacker Dennis Battle is also showing that he is no pushover as he has come up with some huge stops throughout the year including an interception last Friday while Nicolas Mickey has been contributing heavily on both defense and special teams.
Overall, VHS has given up 8 points per game but since hitting district play the Gators have only allowed 5.4 points each match with an undefeated district record with Christopher Lacey calling the shots on defense.
So far, VHS is 5-0 in district play, and have won by over three touchdowns in four out of five of those games.
The Gators will travel this week to play Ridgeland in another district match.
