Vicksburg High School girl’s basketball team took down Port Gibson on Saturday in a 77-56 win.

The Missy Gators started off rocky as they trailed in the beginning. Midway through the first quarter Layla Carter took things into her own hands as she knocked down a couple of 3-pointer to give VHS a 17-12 lead.

The second quarter consisted of the same thing with Carter continuing to get layups along with Janiah Caples who was able to drop a few points before halftime.

Coming out of halftime, VHS was up 39-32 when they began playing tough defense to shut the Blue Waves down. Rodrianna Hall knocked down a couple of 3-pointers in the third quarter along with Kierra James and Carter with a 61-42 lead.

The Missy Gators continued to have control of things in the final quarter as Kalia Bland got a couple of buckets in the win.

Carter led the team with 33 points and Hall picked in 12 in the victory. Caples added 11 on the day and Bland had nine while James finished with five.
