Lady Vikes defeated Port Gibson 60-56 on Tuesday
Warren Central High School girl’s basketball team pulled off a 60-56 win over Port Gibson on Tuesday.
“I feel like we played not to our best ability but we finished it off like we should with the win,” Kayleigh Karel said.
Jae’la Smith got things started for the Lady Vikes with a quick shot. The Blue Waves ended up taking a 7-4 lead until Kayleigh Karel hit a 3-pointer to tie things up. Zion Harvey would also hit a 3-pointer along with another one by Karel as WC went up 16-14 after a layup by Makayla Mitchell to end the first quarter.
By halftime the Lady Vikes had a 30-21 lead with the help of Ta’Mya Sims and Mitchell. Lauren Madison also had a big block before halftime.
Coming out of halftime, WC was able to maintain their double digit lead as they went up 48-32 headed into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter got interesting when G. Flowers hit three 3-pointers to narrow WC’s lead to 49-48. Karel would pop another 3-pointer late in the fourth and the Lady Vikes would eventually take the win.
“Coach wanted us to be more disciplined and we’re gonna give her what she expects in the next game,” Sims said.
Karel and Sims led WC with 15 points each and Harvey added 13. Smith scored eight and Mitchell put up six.
Flowers led PG with 19 points and Thomas scored 16. Washington finished with 14 on the board.
