Brinner denied bail for manslaughter of brother

Melvin Brinner was denied bail on Tuesday in Claiborne County by Judge Odoms for a manslaughter charge.

Brinner is accused of killing his brother Donnell Brinner on Sunday during a family dispute in Port Gibson.

The Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release on Tuesday:

On Sunday, December 25th, 2022, the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a domestic dispute between two brothers that turned deadly. Upon arrival on scene, deputies noticed a body lying on the ground who was identified as Donnell Brinner. Melvin Brinner, the victim’s brother was identified as the shooter and was arrested and charged with manslaughter. His initial appearance was at 1:00 p.m. today, December 27, and bond was denied. This is an ongoing investigation and has been bound over to the next Grand Jury.
