VHS took a 25-0 loss to Holmes County Central on Friday
Vicksburg High School football team took a tough season opener loss to Holmes County Central 25-0.
The Gator defense came out strong in the opening drive by forcing a three and out with Tyler Carter bringing pressure from the outside.
Malik Montgomery came out running hard for VHS as well as Cedric Blackmore as they pounded the ball down the field. A couple of penalties hurt VHS on their opening drive but Ronnie Alexander hit Jacoby Smith for a long pass but came up short on fourth down that forced a turnover.
By the second quarter, the game was still scoreless. The Jaguars managed to pick up some big yards on a few plays just before Demarcus Johnson blasted the ball carrier. Holmes CC would eventually get on the board first from a 48 yard touchdown pass.
Down 6-0, VHS went back to the run game with a mixture of DeCorey Knight Jr., Blackmore and Montgomery who all picked up yards. A fumble gave the Jaguars the ball back in good field position. Jaheim Cattlin picked up a big sack for VHS but Holmes CC ended up getting inside the five yard line after a fake punt and would eventually go up 12-0 by halftime.
The Gators came out with a good kickoff return by Tyler Henderson. VHS would eventually punt and the Jaguars would earn major yards on a few big plays in both the pass and run game. They would eventually go up 18-0 after a 15 yard touchdown pass.
Early in the fourth quarter, the Jaguars scored from another 15 yard pass and took home the win.
