The VSO 2014 River Belles won the U9 Girls Gold Bracket of the MS Rush Crossroads of the South Tournament in Madison/Jackson over the weekend.

After losing 3-2 in their opening match to MS Rush Madison Premier, they went on to defeat RSC Brandon Premier 10-0 in the second match to earn a berth in the semi-finals.

A 3-0 win against MS Rush Jackson set up a rematch with MS Rush Madison in the final. A hard-fought 2-1 win by the River Belles gave them the tournament championship.

“The girls worked extremely hard all weekend, playing in rainy muddy conditions Saturday after sitting through a lightning delay,” Head Coach Daniel Sumerall said. “They didn’t let the early loss discourage them and were determined to win out and earn a rematch in that championship game. I’m very proud of their effort and their continued development. They’re such a fun team to watch.”
