Vicksburg Board approves FY 2020 city budget
In its regular meeting yesterday, Sept. 13, Vicksburg’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved the city’s fiscal year 2020 budget, totaling $29.375 million. The 2020 fiscal year begins Oct. 1, 2019.
Among the highlights of the budget is an across the board raise for city employees of at least 3 percent.
The raise will bump the mayor’s salary by more than $3,200, from $103,317.60 to $106,520.67 annually. For aldermen, the increase is just under $2,500, from $82,742.40 to $85.224.87.
For the lowest paid city workers, the increase is $0.25 an hour, with hourly rates going from $8.25 to $8.50. For full time, 40-hour workweeks, that nets employees an additional $520 per year.
The board also approved a downtown district property-tax increase of 5.05 mills to support Vicksburg Main Street. The increase will raise just over $35,000 for the program.
