Joe’Vante Shorter, former Warren Central star, is headed to Albany State University to compete for a starting spot on a new team.

Shorter recently finished his final season at Hinds Community College where he had 21 receptions, 243 receiving yards, two receiving touchdowns, and one rushing touchdown. Like many of his teammates who transferred to four-year schools, he signed with Albany shortly after the season ended.

While starring at wide receiver, Shorter helped lead the Hinds Eagles to an impressive 7-2 season.

Shorter is a 2017 graduate of Warren Central High School where he helped the Vikings to a 10-3 season in 2016. He rushed for 1,015 yards that season and helped secure a playoff appearance for the team.

Albany State’s football season will start Sept. 6 against Florida A&M at 7 p.m. in Miami Gardens, Fla.
