Former VHS head coach Tim Hughes coaching at Warren Central
Former Vicksburg High School head football coach Tim Hughes has landed a spot as an assistant coach at Warren Central High School.
Vicksburg-Warren School District Athletic Director Preston Nailor confirmed the hire Thursday in a text message.
In his nearly 20 years of coaching, Hughes built an impressive track record of helping build successful programs.
Hughes began coaching at VHS in 2001 where he would remain for the next 10 years under head coach Alonzo Stevens. He took over as defensive coordinator at VHS in 2008 after coach Stacy Sizemore left to coach in Florida.
In 2011, Hughes left VHS to coach at American Heritage High School in Delray Beach, Florida. Hughes was a part of the 2011 American Heritage state championship team. He stayed at AHHS until 2015.
Hughes went on to coach at Ganado High School in Texas for three years before returning to Vicksburg for the head coaching job at VHS. Hughes spent the 2018 and 2019 football seasons at VHS.
Now Hughes is on the Vikings staff coaching under head coach Josh Morgan. Being on the Vikings staff allows Hughes to start over fresh as an assistant with a program that has been to the playoffs for the last seven years.
