St. Aloysius baseball coach Sid Naron has been named as Vicksburg Daily News Baseball Coach of the Year.

Naron, who recently finished fifth season as the Flashes head coach, led St. Al to the first round of with a 16-11 record.

“This year was definitely a roller coaster but overall it was a really good year and I see a bright future for these young men,” Naron said.

Under Naron leadership this season, the Flashes had many high points including in the beginning of district play with a 12-2 win over Ethel.

Eventually the Flashes entire baseball team missed two of weeks of play due to quarantine which put the team in a tough spot.

“It was a step back but we were able to overcome everything and still managed to pull out a successful season,” Naron said.

Although Naron led the team to greatness, he had the good help of his assistant coaches Judson Gatling and Jay Harper who had a positive impact on the team.

“They were a huge part of our success on a daily basis and the connectivity they with the players was great,” Naron said.

Now that the Flashes season has come to an end, Naron can now reflect back on how well his team did as he was both humbled and excited to learn that he was selected as the coach of the year.

“Definitely an honor,” Naron said. “It’s a reflection of our team and the job our assistant coaches Jay Harper and Judson Gatling have done investing in these young men. It’s also a reflection of a senior class that persevered through a lot and left a mark on our program that will not be forgotten. And as page turns, we are super excited about where our programs headed and the talent coming through in next few years. God has blessed me and I’m truly grateful to be able to lead this program at St Aloysius.”

Naron is now the first coach to become the VDN Baseball Coach of the Year and we will continue to provide updates on his success with the Flashes.
