County vehicle falls off ferry into Yazoo Diversion Canal

At 7:43 a.m., 911 received a call that a county vehicle slipped off the Kings Point ferry into the Yazoo Diversion Canal.
According to radio traffic, a county employee was in the vehicle when it went overboard and they were entrapped within it.
The individual was able to free themselves from the vehicle but the truck sunk more 100 yards away from the ferry.
Numerous units responded to the incident, including, Fire Medic 30, Rescue, EMA 1, John Elfer, EMA 2, Tracey Porter, EMA 4, Reed Birdsong, WC-2, Bobby Stewart, WC41, Daniel Thomas and numerous other county employees along with the coast guard.
The ferry has a chain that is supposed to help in preventing vehicles from falling off. There is no confirmation at this time if the chain was up.
The standard protocol is the vehicle is to be put in park and the driver stays inside the vehicle.
