St. George Orthodox Church Men’s group hosted an appreciation meal for all first responders from Vicksburg and Warren County today.

In a release to the media, St. George said, “This event starts off the New Year, and serves to honor those who serve our community.”

Father Gabriel Karam, who is the pastor of St. George, said, “We wanted to honor those who serve the community by serving them with a good meal! This was one way we could show our appreciation.”

The Antiochian Men’s (A.MEN) Group President, Brian Strickland said, “We reached out and invited the Vicksburg Police Department, Vicksburg Fire Dept, Troop C, MS Highway Patrol, Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Warren County volunteer Fire Depts, Vicksburg National Military Park Law Enforcement Rangers, 911 personnel, constables and the Warren County Emergency Management Agency. We should have a good turnout. We asked Goldie’s Express to cater to 150 first responders. We know they call can’t sit and have a meal at the church, so there will be options to dine in or pick up a meal-to-go and bring it back to their station.”

According to their press release, St George was established in 1906 and has always been involved in the community. Their goal, as stated in the release, is to spread the ancient apostolic and living Word of God in the community by putting the gospel into action and bearing witness in the world, making it accessible to all those seeking the “True Faith.” The parish is dedicated to the maintenance of a true parish environment, welcoming, loving, nurturing and healing. Their vision, according to the release, is to spread the word of God in the community by outreach and involvement.
