Bennard Craft pleaded guilty in the Warren County Circuit Court on Tuesday morning in front of Judge James Chaney.

Craft was charged with the murder of Andrew Prudhomme in 2020. He was accused of shooting the victim several times at a home on Alfred Drive in Vicksburg.

Instead of taking the murder case to trial, Craft pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter, which could result in a maximum penalty of 20 years.

During the hearing, Prosecutor Michael Warren argued that Craft killed Prudhomme over a check fraud scheme.

Craft’s attorney asked Judge Chaney if he could remain free until sentencing, but that request was quickly opposed by Warren and rejected by Chaney.

Craft will be sentenced on May 5th.
