Alcorn picked up two wins on Friday

Alcorn State University’s softball team came out with two wins on Friday in the River City Classic II.

The Lady Braves defeated Alabama A&M 6-5 as pitcher Kiri Parker was on the rubber and threw four strikeouts.

The score was tied at 2-2 until the fourth inning when AAMU took a 4-2 lead.

Alcorn took the lead in the seventh inning as Amari Ramsey went 2 for 4 at the plate with three RBIs. Tyesha Cole also had two hits in the win.

In the 9-6 win over Jackson State, ASU took a 5-0 lead in the first inning.

Cole, Marsha Hunt, and Sarah Kennedy each collected two hits. Kennedy and Cole both also had two RBIs.

A’Mya Stevens and Ursin Brenn both pitched in the game where they had a combined three strikeouts.

ASU will play again on Saturday against AAMU and Eastern Illinois beginning at 11:30 a.m.
