Alligator rescued on Warrenton Road
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks rescued an alligator Wednesday afternoon on Warrenton Road in Vicksburg.
The gator, which is about 6-foot long, was apparently hit by a car around 3:30 p.m. and was stunned and bleeding, but still had plenty of fight when MDWFP agents attempted to capture it. It rolled and hissed and thrashed, doing all it could to get away.
The rescue operation took less than 30 minutes, but traffic was stopped in both directions.
Once the gator was secured, agents loaded it into their pickup and transport it to receive veterinary care. It will be released back into the wild if at all possible.
Vicksburg Police Officers and Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace assisted with the rescue.
