Vicksburg Police responded to a call of a disturbance at around 2:15 a.m. at the City Front Boat Ramp on the Yazoo Diversion Canal.

When officers arrived, they found a gold 2003 Toyota Camry in the water and still visible.

Three people who were on the scene claimed to have been occupants of the vehicle.

Police found one of the alleged occupants, Grady Bishop, standing over a female who had apparently been assaulted. Officers arrested Bishop on a charge of simple assault.

The woman was treated on the scene for her injuries.

According to what the vehicle occupants told police, the third person on the scene, apparently the driver, left the car in neutral on Clay Street. The car rolled down Clay, across the railroad tracks and down the ramp into the water, a distance of roughly 60 yards.

The Camry eventually sank, and divers are attempting to recover it.
