Entergy is offering free virtual tax preparation

Volunteers are helping qualifying customers claim their Earned Income Tax Credits.
Entergy Mississippi is again helping those who qualify for the federal Earned Income Tax Credits to claim the money they are owed. This is done via a continuing partnership with community advocates who support the free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance tax preparation service. Each volunteer is IRS-certified. Shareholder contributions fund this effort, which does not alter customers’ bills.
The goal for Entergy is to help increase the amount of money returned to Mississippi State residents. Those who earn $57,000 or less are helped to determine if they qualify for those benefits. By raising awareness of the EITC, and by supporting local Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites, customers can avoid hiked fees and refund-anticipation loans.
“Services provided through the VITA program help power lives for our customers, who can gain long-term benefits by claiming EITC,” said Lea Turnipseed, Entergy Mississippi vice president of customer service. “By putting our customers’ hard-earned money back in their pockets, we help improve their lives, create opportunities and strengthen our communities.”
Those who qualify may get their taxes prepared free of charge by the volunteers at VITA sites. Drop-off tax preparation services are also being offered due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Customers may even qualify for an Economic Impact Payment due to the COVID-19 pandemic as well. Those who did not receive a stimulus payment in 2020 may be owed a Recovery Rebate Tax Credit on their tax returns filed in 2021.
Free services are provided at VITA sites throughout the 2021 tax season. Some VITA locations offer more than just tax preparation services. Financial coaching, budget workshops, free legal services and more may be offered as well.
