Flaggs proposes 5 percent wage increase for fire fighters and police
“If you don’t get a raise, it’s because of Doug (Whittington), (Alex) Monsour and (Michael) Mayfield,” Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs Jr. said to a packed room in this morning’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting.
Flagg’s proposed pay increase includes a 4 percent raise for most department heads including the Aldermen and Mayor. All other city employees are slated to receive a 3 percent increase under the budget proposal. The mayor also announced a hiring freeze for the city with the exception of the police and fire departments.
The mayor’s city budget proposal for 2020 specifies spending at 97 percent of revenue and increasing the $3 million dollar cushion by 10 percent.
City employees received a similar raise last year at this time.
