Former MSU coach to be inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame

Former Mississippi State head football coach Sylvester Croom will be inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame Dec. 4

Due to COVID-19, the induction ceremony will be virtual.

“While we are very disappointed that we are not able to honor the Class of 2020 at a banquet, we are very thankful technology will allow us to still induct these sports heroes in a way that is safe for everyone,” said Scott Myers, Alabama Sports Hall of Fame executive director, in a statement.

Croom played for Alabama from 1972 to 1974. He helped the Crimson Tide to a 1973 national championship, and he also had All-American honors and was awarded the Jacobs Blocking Trophy.

Before becoming MSU’s head coach in 2004, Croom spent over a decade coaching as an assistant in the NFL. His last successful season with the Bulldogs was in 2007, when he led the team to a 8-5 season and won SEC Coach of the Year.

After leaving MSU in 2009, Croom joined the St. Louis Rams coaching staff. He retired from coaching in 2018 after a 40-year career.
