Former Vicksburg High School quarterback Tavares Johnson Jr has accepted a job as Riverside High School head football coach.

Johnson, who previously coached at Hollandale Simmons, made the announcement in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

Johnson helped VHS to a playoff appearance in 2013 before heading to play for Alcorn State University where he was a part of the Braves SWAC Championship team.

Recently, Johnson has made a big name name for himself as an assistant coach when he helped Northside High School and Hollandale to deep playoff appearances.

Johnson will be up for a big task as he will now be in full control of turning around Riverside who went 0-9 last season.
