Former WC powerlifter Davenport wins first place in college powerlifting meet

Former Warren Central football player and powerlifter Jalen Davenport came in first place in a powerlifting meet in Hattiesburg Sept. 19.

Davenport, who is lifting at Blue Mountain College in the 230 pound class, out lifted every defender he competed against.

He signed with BMC this summer after graduating from WC in  May. In his freshman year at BMC, he is already making an impact on his team.

Davenport lifted a total of 1,408 pounds in the meet, giving him the first place title: He squatted 600 pounds, deadlifted 573 pounds and bench pressed 275 pounds,

Davenport made it to state championship powerlifting meet in his senior year at WCHS, but the event was canceled due to COVID-19.
