Former Warren Central High School and current Blue Mountain College powerlifter Jalen Davenport set a state record in bench press over the weekend.

Davenport, who lifts in the 230 pound weight class, lifted 155 kilograms which turned out to be 342 pounds, at his powerlifting meeting in Hattiesburg that set the state record. He was unable to compete  in the other lifts due to a muscle injury.

Davenport is a freshman at BMC and is currently making a great impact on their weightlifting program.

Blue Mountain College’s next powerlifting meet isn’t scheduled yet but Vicksburg Dailey News will provide updates on Davenport’s success.
