Hellcat flees from police, crashes in Warren County
A high-speed pursuit initiated from Jackson resulted in a crash near the 13th mile marker on I-20 West in Warren County on Wednesday. Two vehicles, a 2015 Dodge Challenger Hellcat and a white Chevrolet Silverado, instigated a chase that spanned several counties and involved multiple law enforcement agencies.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP), the Dodge Challenger, reported stolen from Alabama, was spotted traveling west on I-20 in Rankin County. A Chevrolet Silverado, believed to be connected to the theft, was also located. While both vehicles were stopped east of Clinton, the Silverado’s two occupants were apprehended without any conflict. However, the Challenger’s driver chose to flee, prompting a chase.
Clinton Police and Warren County Sheriff’s Deputies, alongside the MHP, were involved in the pursuit which extended for over 20 miles. Despite efforts to stop the Challenger using spike strips near Edwards, the driver successfully dodged the barrier, only to later crash into an 18-wheeler and a guardrail.
Post-collision, the Challenger’s driver was taken into custody by Clinton Police without further incident, while the occupants of the Silverado were transported to the Raymond Detention Center.
WLBT reports the suspects had been transported from Texas to a car dealership in Cullman, Alabama, in the pickup. There, they stole the Challenger and then drove both vehicles back towards Texas.
