Hillcrest burglary suspect being treated for gunshot wound

Earlier on Thursday, shots were fired in the 900 block of Hillcrest.
Upon arriving at her home, a homeowner witnessed a male inside the residence and attempted to detain him by gunpoint.
A shot was fired which struck the suspect in the forearm. He fled through an open window at the rear of the home.
The suspect was later discovered at the River City Rescue Mission on Washington Street where he was treated by paramedics and transported to River Region Merit Health to secure further treatment.
The suspect will be charged with burglary upon being released from the hospital. The homeowner will not face charges at this time due to the castle doctrine.
The case is to be presented for review to the next grand jury. Names have not been released at this time.
