Inmates start fire in Warren County jail
According to Sheriff Martin Pace, “Inmates set a piece of a mattress on fire.” Guards at the jail
Around 8:30 p.m. Friday night, inmates in the Warren County Jail reportedly started a fire.
According to Sheriff Martin Pace, “Inmates set a piece of a mattress on fire.” Guards at the jail discovered the fire and were able to quickly extinguish the flames. “Inmates were moved to another zone,” reported Sheriff Pace.
Vicksburg Fire Department medics were dispatched to the scene to check out the inmates “…just for precaution,” said the Sheriff. None of the inmates were injured.
Pace went on to indicate there was no damage to the aged jail.
The incident is under investigation by Lt. Jessie Tilly with the Warren County Jail with assistance from the Sheriff’s Office investigators.
A new jail has been in the works for some time in Warren County. Just last week the Warren County Board of Supervisors was reported to have been receiving bids on some aspects of building the jail.
On May 10 of this year, 5 inmates were under investigation for starting a fire in the jail. In October of last year, photos were leaked from the jail showing the condition of some parts of the jail.
