The Washington Redskins are in the process of hiring Jennifer King as a full-time assistant coach, making her the first African American woman to fill that post in the NFL.

Before becoming a coach, King played for the New York Sharks in the Women’s Football Alliance.

In 2018, King was a basketball coach for Johnson & Wales University women’s basketball team leading them to a Division II championship. She was also an assistant wide receivers coach for the Arizona Hotshots in the Alliance of American Football where she coached former Redskins player Rashad Ross.

Ron Rivera, then the Carolina Panthers head coach, hired King in 2017 as a wide receiver coaching intern. Rivera is now the Redskin’s head coach.

The Redskins are expected to make the historic deal with King sometime this week.
