Vicksburg High School boy’s basketball coach Kelvin Carter has been named the Region 4-5A Coach of the Year.

Carter, who is in his sixth season as Head Coach, earned the award on Saturday.

“It’s really gratifying to receive such an honor,” Carter said. “Coach of the year goes to the coach with the best record in the district. If you would have told me that I would have been that guy I probably would have disagreed because of how tough our district is. I thank my players and coaches for their hard work and commitment for getting our team to this point. Go Gators.”

The Gators are currently 26-2 and 7-0 in district play. They are also the No.1 seed for the MHSAA district tournament that begins this week while they are currently ranked as the No.8 team in Mississippi.

Carter has done a complete turnaround with the Gators this season as they went from 12-17 last year to now standing with nearly 30 wins.

VHS will play again on Wednesday.
