Lady Flashes prepare for upcoming season

The St. Aloysius softball team is eyeing the upcoming season under the leadership of new head coach Mike Foley.

The Lady Flashes have begun practicing as they are just a little over a month away from their season.

“I’m feeling good and I think we’ll do very well, but we’ve got some work to do, and overall, I don’t see any real problems,” Foley said.

St. Al worked on various drills on Thursday, including hitting and pitching in the blazing hot sun.

“You always have to work on hitting because if we can score more than six runs per game, we’re gonna be in every game, and we have to increase the run score per game from last year,” Foley added.

Foley is returning most of last year’s team, as the Lady Flashes graduated four seniors from the 2022 squad.

Although improving is on the minds of the Lady Flashes, Foley has his eyes on leading St. Al to the playoffs for the first time in nearly 10 seasons.

“The goal is to make the playoffs and get past the first round,” Foley said.

The Lady Flashes finished with a 9-15 record last year, as they were just one win shy of a playoff berth. They are returning some key players from last year’s team, such as Kyleigh Cooper, Megan Theriot, Ali Grace Luke, and Maddy McSherry, who all led St. Al to their best season since joining the MAIS. They also have a few new additions to the squad who should contribute heavily.
