Man arrested on outstanding warrants after going through garbage cans

A report of a man going through garbage cans led to his arrest after Warren County deputies discovered he had a warrant.

On May 21, just after 2 p.m., 911 received a call of suspicious activity on Old Hwy 27 near Stinson Road.

“The caller reported that a white male in a small white car was going through garbage cans,” said Sheriff Martin Pace. The nearest unit in the area responded and made contact with a white 2009 Ford sedan car driven by a white male turning onto Indiana Avenue.

Matching the description of the suspect vehicle, that vehicle was stopped.

The driver, James “Jimmie” Smith, 54 with a Vicksburg address, was listed as a wanted person out of Warren County for receiving stolen property for the prior possession of a stolen vehicle. A different vehicle than he was driving at the time he was stopped.

“He was arrested because it is a capias warrant. Justice Court has that jurisdiction, so he will remain in jail without bond until he has a post-indictment arraignment in front of a circuit court judge at which time they can set bail,” explained Sheriff Pace.

Deputy Thomas McBride and Sgt. Cordell Watkins assisted in this arrest.
