Man has half his ear ripped off in an apparent assault

Vicksburg Police officers responded about 8:45 a.m. today to an apparent assault at the apartments near Locust and Jefferson streets.

According to a witness, who declined to provide a name, the male victim had the lower half of his left ear ripped off, and there was damage to the other side of his head.

The victim has been transported to Merit Health River Region for treatment.

It’s possible this was a dog attack; however, the witness said it looked like the man had been held down and assaulted.

Police are investigating.
