Man wanted for 2020 Vicksburg murder was arrested in Texas on Wednesday
A man who was wanted for a murder in Vicksburg in 2020 has been arrested in Denton, Texas, after a traffic stop on Wednesday.
Michael James Jones, 27, was arrested after being pulled over around 3 a.m. for allegedly driving suspiciously. During the stop, the officer learned that Jones had multiple warrants, including one from Vicksburg for the murder of Joshua Coffee. Additionally, officers learned that Jones was in possession of controlled substances, including fentanyl.
Jones had a warrant out for his arrest in the 2020 murder of Joshua Coffee. Reportedly, Denton was also struck by a bullet.
In addition to the Vicksburg murder charge, Jones also faces two charges of possession of controlled substances: one for Penalty Group 1/1-B, less than one gram, and the other for Penalty Group two, between four and 400 grams.
Jones’ bail was set at $100,000 for the drug charges. He is currently being held at the Denton City Jail.
Investigator Hayes with the Vicksburg Police Department had no comment on this story at this time.
