Jackson, Miss. (AP) – The Mississippi Arts Commission will hand out the 23rd annual Governor’s Awards for Excellence in the Arts on Feb. 24 in Jackson.
This year’s five awards and recipients are:
Arts in Education – Charles A. Rhoads of Brandon.
Arts in Community – Natchez Literary & Cinema Celebration.
Artistic Excellence- Gwendolyn A. Magee of Jackson.
Excellence in Music – Mac McAnally, a native of Belmont, who now lives in Nashville.
Lifetime Achievement – Joe Willie “Pinetop” Perkins, a native of Belzoni now living in Austin, Texas.
The awards are presented to individuals and organizations for outstanding work in visual, literary, and performing arts,
