Monroe County deputy killed Saturday; second deputy injured

The Mississippi law enforcement community is mourning the loss of one of its own following an incident Saturday night at a safety checkpoint where two deputies were struck by a vehicle.

Monroe County Deputy Dylan Pickle succumbed to his injuries at a Tupelo hospital. A second deputy, Zach Wilbanks, is hospitalized after undergoing surgery Sunday morning.

Few details have been released about the incident, which occurred at around 9:45 p.m. Saturday.
