Monday is a special celebration for many as they celebrate National Softball Day.

Softball was invented by George Handcock in 1887 while he and friends were watching a football game between Harvard and Yale.

The game became popular among fire departments in the area. For 135 years, softball has remained a top sport among athletes.

Vicksburg Daily News would like to recognize our local softball teams for the dedication they have for the sport.
