Ocie Brown has now taken over as Head Coach of the Vicksburg High School ninth grade football team.

Brown, who recently coached at Vicksburg Junior High, earned the position a few weeks ago as VHS is now under the leadership of Christopher Lacey.

Brown lettered in football, basketball and baseball at Port Gibson High School where he was named as the MVP of all three sports in his senior year. He went on to play football and golf at Alcorn State University before starting a coaching career in 2008.

In his first year as head coach at Port Gibson Middle School, Brown led the Blue Waves to an undefeated season and Little Six Championship. He was then promoted to the offensive coordinator position at PG High School where he would remain until 2018.

In 2019, Brown was hired as the wide receivers coach/special teams coordinator at Vicksburg Junior High School where the Gators went undefeated and won the Little Six Championship.

Brown is familiar with the upcoming freshmen that he will be in charge of as he coached that crew when they were in junior high.

“I’m excited because I coached those guys before and it’s a luxury to be getting them for a third year, Brown said. I think this group will be the turning point to getting the ninth grade team back to winning and they are a very respectful crew.”

Brown will also assist with the varsity football team as the wide receivers coach and the passing game coordinator.
