A motor vehicle accident in Issaquena County has claimed the life of Gerald Vanderford, 50, of Vicksburg.

Warren County officials are on the scene or on the way to assist. The one-vehicle accident occurred on Highway 61 North about 1 mile north of the county line. The time of the accident is uncertain, but a concerned passer-by notified authorities at approximately 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The driver of the vehicle was traveling alone and appears to have been heading southbound when the vehicle left the road. The driver was apparently ejected from the vehicle on impact and into Deer Creek.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol will be in charge of the accident investigation. Vicksburg and Warren County firefighters are working to recover the body from the water at this time.
