PCA names Carlos Dawson as new softball head coach
Porters Chapel Academy has named Carlos Dawson as the new head softball coach.
“I have been playing ball all my life, and I started playing softball around 1989. That’s when I was introduced to the sport,” Dawson said.
Dawson received word of the job after having a conversation with Headmaster Chris Williams. He officially took over the position a few weeks ago, and new players are in the middle of summer workouts.
Dawson is inheriting a team that is returning multiple players from last season, who are eager to get back on the field.
“I don’t want to just teach the game I love, but I also want to help them stay on track with the Lord and their relationship with Him,” Dawson said.
Dawson was born in Kosciusko and lived in places like Forest, Morton, Laurel, as well as Central America. In his late teens, Dawson moved to Vicksburg with his parents and attended Warren Central, where he was part of the state championship football team in the late 1980s.
Three decades later, Dawson has now earned a head coaching gig at PCA, where his daughter will be in her senior year.
“I feel confident that we’re going to do better, and I’ve seen plenty of improvement in these girls,” Dawson added.
PCA’s season will begin on Aug. 1 when they host Wilkinson County Christian.
