Sydney Cooley, daughter of Ava and Eric Cooley, achieved victory at the Vicksburg Warren School District Spelling Bee last week.

Cooley is a sixth-grader at Beechwood Elementary School, an accomplished swimmer with the Vicksburg Swim Association and a two-time spelling bee participant. She will now represent VWSD at the upcoming state spelling bee.

Cooley put dedication and hard work into preparing for the challenge. That hard work paid off when she was announced the winner, and she had some advice for her peers on what it takes to be successful.

“You really have to have a lot of confidence in yourself, and you can’t really have low self-esteem,” Cooley told WJTV,  “I just want everyone to know that when you do get a chance to win, humble yourself and don’t be cocky and arrogant. Humble and just keep working hard.”
