Two suspects charged with murder for shooting of 15-year-old

Hinds County, MS -On Friday, July 14, 2023 at approx. 8:23 PM, HCSO Deputies responded to 1101 Hwy 467, Brandon Arms Apartments in Edwards, MS regarding a shooting.

Upon arrival, Deputies learned that Denarius Hayes,15, black male, had been shot multiple times and was being transported to River Region Hospital in Vicksburg, MS via private vehicle. He was later transferred to UMMC by air support for his injuries.

During the course of the investigation, Investigators were able to identify a suspect, Raymond Townsend,17, black male, as the shooter. He was arrested and charged as an adult with aggravated assault and is currently being held at the Youth Detention Center.

On Monday evening, July 24, 2023 at approx. 5:05PM, Denarius Hayes succumbed to his injuries at UMMC and was pronounced deceased. Raymond Townsend’s charge was then upgraded to murder.

Investigators were also able to identify another suspect, Keith Lee,20, black male. A warrant was secured for his arrest for the charge of murder. He was arrested and charged with murder and is currently being held at the Raymond Detention Center.
