The Vicksburg High School boy’s basketball team are the Pre National Tune Up Tournament Champions for the second year in a row after winning multiple wins over the weekend.

“These guys worked very hard for this and we played some tough teams and it was no surprise that we finished on top,” VHS Head Coach Kelvin Carter said.

The Gators went 5-0 in the tournament where they secured wins over NSA, D-Nice Daniels, DaVinci, Palmer and PB Nation. VHS finished the tournament with a 70-51 victory over D-Nice Daniels.

Davian Williams averaged over 20 points per game in the tournament while Tyler Henderson, Mikey Johnson and Jaylin Jackson all contributed heavily to the wins. Kameron Bailey also earned a double-double in each game.

Overall, VHS has a 24-5 record in the month of June where they have knocked off teams that they loss to last year such as Provine.

“I’m going to go back to the old saying of we’re going to prepare for war in the time of peace,” Carter added.

The Gators fell short of a district title last season but they are now back and stronger than ever as they are preparing for their regular season which will begin later on this year.
