Vicksburg native Sam Semi, Jr. is making a name for himself in Texas where he is leading Arlington High School at quarterback.

Semi, a junior who was born in Vicksburg and moved to Texas at the age of 11, is coming off a 58-47 win over Bowie where he threw for 423 yards and three touchdowns.

After coming off a 4-7 season as a sophomore last season, Semi earned the starting quarterback position and now is in mid-season with AHS with a 4-2 record.

“I always knew that if I got my chance I would be great but since I got the opportunity I ran with it and went crazy and we’re far from finished,” Semi said.

Semi is a good athlete on his feet along with having a strong arm where he continues to throw long touchdowns this season.

“I’m great at remaining calm in the pocket and I’m just happy to lead these guys and no matter what they need, I got them,” Semi said.

Semi has now thrown 10 touchdowns on the year and rushed for another eight and is prepared to take on South Brand Prairie on Friday.

“We feel very confident and we are going to do what we’ve been doing, which is dominating on the field, so I know we’ll be fine.”

Semi is the son of Shonda and Sam Semi, Sr.
